At first, they considered the nostalgia of the past. Miguel and Brett sat down to consider what improvised music felt like in the present moment and what might it sound like in the future. With over 10 years of friendship and countless gigs, this duo felt uniquely suited to try and consider both the present and the future. Throughout the planning and rehearsing process, it seemed abundantly clear that Miguel and his compositional style was pointing directly into this imagined future. Brett, with his involvement in the community on a day to day basis, felt that his compositions reflected the present/past moments, both composing new music for the project, while also bringing up tunes from the past. Present + represents the next steps for the 30+2 duo.
